Paperwhales FAQ

Quick answers about music, the song queue, ownership, accounts, controls and performance in Paperwhales.

Is Paper Whales finished?

No. Paper Whales is in early development — some features are not fully working yet, and things may change or break. Cameras and face tracking are the earliest parts.

Why can't I hear any music?

Browsers block sound until you tap or click once. Tap a beam of light or the play button on the radio bar. Also check your device isn't on silent.

Why is my song still in the queue?

Songs are made one by one in a shared queue and usually take a few minutes. Open the queue pill to see its real position, any error and how many retries are left.

Who owns the songs?

Paperwhales keeps the rights to music made here; you may use your songs for personal use. See Music rights: https://www.paperwhales.com/music-rights

Can my song be played on the live station?

Yes. Songs made here may be broadcast on our live radio and channels, or removed. See the Terms: https://www.paperwhales.com/terms

How do I delete something I made?

Open its card and use the take-down option, or email Paperwhales888@gmail.com.

Do I need an account?

Not to explore. You need one to create songs. Your guest drafts are kept when you sign in.

How do I steer?

Left pad sets speed, the UP/DN pill climbs and dives, and dragging looks around. Full list: https://www.paperwhales.com/guide

What is O mode?

In view 1, O laps your whale along the avenue with the skyline behind it. Drag up or down to move the path. O2 circles one house.

My speed keeps resetting.

Turn on speed hold (A). Your speed then stays when you let go and when you change view.

The city is slow on my phone.

It lowers detail automatically. Closing other apps and tabs helps. Lower world settings like flower count also help.

Taps don't feel right.

Tune tap and hold timings in player settings → gestures.

Who are the other whales?

Other players, plus city whales that draw hearts and words in the sky with their trails.
